The String Projects
Picture an American city with few cultural opportunities and no history of string playing, where a public university creates a program which trains teachers, nurtures young students, engenders the creation of public school string programs in the area, and fosters a university-public school partnership. You’re looking at a city with a String Project.

Building on the models of long-running successful String Projects at the University of Texas and the University of South Carolina, a new generation of university educators is creating a network of more than 30 such String Projects around the country. The String Projects are preparing badly needed new music teachers for our middle schools and high schools, while introducing thousands of young people to the joys of making music – especially among those from economically disadvantaged households.
