Quartet San Francisco
Anything is possible for Quartet San Francisco - a group of first-rate classical musicians whose impressive resumes just begin to scratch the surface of their combination of passion and irreverence. The four represent the cream of American and European training and experience but there's nothing old-fashioned about their sound - their concerts deliver an irresistible mixture of genre-bending styles that defy all preconceptions. Veterans of chamber groups, orchestras, operas and movie soundtracks around the globe, this team has the chops to take on anything written for the string quartet in the last three hundred years plus jazz, funk and pop - and that's precisely what they do.

Founded in 2001 by renowned jazz and classical violinist Jeremy Cohen, Quartet San Francisco is dedicated to performing every composition true to the style in which it was conceived. Their repertoire, although solidly grounded in traditional string quartet fare, serves up Big Band, Latin and jazz with infectious enthusiasm and incredible technique. Others perform similar works, but what makes Quartet San Francisco unique in the world of classical music is that the members do not apply classical methods of playing to these other pieces - they have studied and continue to study the different styles that they perform. From tango to Tchaikovsky, Beethoven to Brubeck, Mozart to Mancini, Quartet San Francisco uses the rich sound of strings to broaden musical horizons.

Their mission is to bring diverse, exciting, eclectic music to classically-oriented audiences in informal, lively and humor-filled programs that will leave concertgoers with a whole new appreciation for what can be accomplished with eight hands and sixteen strings. Educational, emotional and simply excellent - that's an evening with Quartet San Francisco.
